First Annual Palace Theatre Block Party Attracts Over 1500 Attendees

ALBANY, N.Y. — On Saturday, August 18, 2018 the Palace Performing Arts Center in cooperation with M&T Bank, MVP Health Care, Hot 99.1FM and local neighborhood associations held the 1st Annual Palace Theatre Community Block Party. Despite a rainy afternoon the event was a notable success with over 1,500 neighbors and community members coming out for an afternoon of family friendly local entertainment: live music (The Ill Funk Ensemble and Hot 99.1’s DJ Supreme), face painters, balloon artists, bounce houses and Food Trucks.

The Palace Theatre announced their 2018 Summer in the City Movie Series at a press event held in the lobby of the Theatre. Palace Executive Director Susan Rosko Fogarty was joined by Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Steve Baboulis (Vice President & General Manager, WNTY TV-13 and Vice Chairman of the Board for the Palace Theatre), Matt Canon (Economic Development Project Manager, Albany County Office of the Executive), and Kathy Lanni (Chief Community Officer, SEFCU) to speak about this summer's lineup and the positive impact of this free family series on the local community.

The $85 million in state Regional Economic Development Councils grants announced on Wednesday includes many awards for arts and cultural organizations in the broader Capital Region, including $2.5 million toward renovations and modernization at Albany’s Palace Theatre, $500,000 toward new seats and other work at Proctors in Schenectady and $500,000 toward restoration of the historic Burden Iron Works Museum in Troy.
